RAUL ABREU

About

Raúl Abreu was born in Havana, Cuba. He began his professional studies at the Fernando Alonso National Ballet School, where he participated in several events and competitions.

In 2015 he joined the ranks of the Cuban National Ballet. Due to his outstanding artistic and technical work, in 2016, while still a member of the Ballet Corps at only 18 years old, he was chosen to play the role of Prince Siegfried in the ballet: Swan Lake.

In 2017 he was promoted to Soloist and in 2018 he obtained the category of Principal Dancer. He has performed the leading roles of the romantic-classical tradition: Giselle, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker, The Sleeping Beauty, Theme and Variations, Raymonda, La Fille Mal Gardée, among others.

His repertoire includes works by Alicia Alonso, George Balanchine, Alberto Méndez, as well as more contemporary choreographers such as Anabelle López-Ochoa. In 2020 he embarked on a new stage of his professional life with Ballet Revolución, a Live-Band show that revolutionizes Cuban dance between ballet and street dance. In 2023 he returns to classical dance by making a long tour of Europe where he stars in a career premiere in the role of Von Rothbart in Swan Lake.

He has performed on very prestigious ballet stages and has been invited to various important ballet galas and events such as the Festival of the Arts of Cuba at the Kennedy Center (Washington, USA), the Cali Dance Festival (Colombia), and the Etoiles de Le Salle Pleyel Gala in Paris (France)

He has a great fondness and passion for Photography and Videography, where 3 years ago, he received a National Amateur Photography Award in Cuba. His best hobbies are cameras and spending hours in the gym.
